1. Grizzly Man (2005) — The ineffable beauty of Werner Herzog’s touch follows even into the most tragic of circumstances. Will make you both want to roam the wilderness and glad that it’s not currently an option. Streaming on Amazon Prime.
2. Clue (1985) — You haven’t really quarantined until you’ve done it in an old manor with a killer on the loose. Streaming on Amazon Prime.
3. The Witch (2015) — An oppressively dark Grimm’s fairy tale whose moral is the dangers of social distancing. Streaming on Netflix.
4. Spider-Man 3 (2007) — It’s better than you remember! Streaming on Netflix.
5. War and Peace (1966) — The ultimate quarantine movie because a) if you don’t watch it now, you never will, and b) if you start it now, by the time it’s over everything will be totally back to normal. It’s very very long and very very worth it. Streaming on the Criterion Channel.

1. Indiana Jones trilogy (on Netflix)
2. Month Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Life of Brian (on Netflix)
3. Ip Man 1-3 (on Netflix) – and if you like these, check out the numerous other Shaw Brothers/kung fu films on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Start with 36th Chamber and Kung Fu Hustle. And if you still want more, Kung Fu is on Amazon Prime and Into the Badlands is on Netflix.

5. All of Seth Breedlove’s Small Town Monsters documentaries (on Amazon Prime). The Bray Road Beast is my personal favorite, but all of these docs are wonderful. Breedlove is a modern folklore repository.

3. Birdman of Alcatraz (on the Criterion Channel): A classic, compelling story of human spirit.
4. The Great Escape (on Amazon): Look, we all need our escapist fantasies right now.
5. Annihilation (on Hulu): Pretty, interesting, and a worthwhile second watch.

Robert Brown

1. Rear Window (1954): Jimmy Stewart helped catch a murderer while he was stuck at home. What have you accomplished this week? (Available on Hulu.)
2. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977) and The Tigger Movie (2000): Two sweet, calming films about loving our neighbors, even when they get on our nerves. (Available on Disney+.)
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (2010): The second act of this film is suddenly deeply relatable. (Available on Hulu.)
4. The Wind Rises (2013): A meditation on the fragility and beauty of life. (Supposedly available on Netflix beginning April 1.)
5. A Hidden Life (2019): It isn’t available on any subscription-based streaming sites, but you can rent it on YouTube, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, or elsewhere. It’s worth every penny. This is the perfect film for our moment.
